The Day We Touched the Moon.

If you're less than a certain age
it's sure you don't remember
 A day in late July of sixty nine.
We gathered 'round our tv sets
and watched in awe and wonder
 A mission in the name of all mankind.

I can't forget the tension as

the little craft descended
 To that cratered, bolder strewn moonscape
One small mistake would cause their flight
and lives to be ended
 I've got it all on old style reel tape.

The day we touched the moon
It was science fiction coming true
A Sunday afternoon
When Neel, Buzz, Me and you
All touched the moon.

Then we heard those immortal words
"Houston, Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed" *
Only those who lived it know the thrill
If something should go wrong
they would be completely stranded
 The nagging little thought brought on a chill.

Later that same evening

Neel climbed down the ladder
 To touch the lunar surface for us all
The ghostly tv image was
mostly black and white
 In spite of that the world was enthralled

 Neel would say when he stepped on the moon.
"That's one small step for a man
one giant leap for mankind".
 It's history and I was there too.

It's true there were only two

on that historic journey
